Warning: never wear a vintage-leather-pencil-skirt while biking

Posted on Jan 6, 2013 | 5 Comments

I bought this beautiful mint leather pencil skirt at a gigantic salvation army store in Detroit. It was an over knee skirt and i really loved it that way. I say ‘was’, because as you probably know we Dutch ladies bike around most of the time. And so ja, you feel it coming… One day it happened….

Some days, also a Dutch lady doesn’t want to think of ‘practicality’  first. So.. i dressed up in my leather pencil skirt, felt like a real lady, stepped on my bike with great difficulty and thought: See, this IS possible, a pencil skirt on a bike! But than i felt it all happen. ‘I didnt feel that’ i ignorantly said out loud, while biking on. But the moment came i had to face reality. I cried out loud on the inside. Because yes, my skirt had torn open on the back. So I spent a day explaining everyone the same story.. quite an awkward day that was.

After i had dealt with this vintage-leather-pencil-skirt-on-a-bike-trauma i decided i still wanted to keep the torn skirt. So this is what i did. While working on it i realised how old the leather actually was.. probably more than 25 years old, meaning it had the strength of a kitchen paper towel.

Let’s see how long my new mini skirt and clutch will make me a happy (biking) lady.

Great blog Sas…I know that terrible feeling, sitting down on the saddle and that tearing sound, oh no…! On your way to an important meeting 🙁

Love the new look of the skirt! And of course the clutch is super! If any of them come up for sale, let me know!
